This one took some working out as I couldn’t figure out the “smoothness” factor. However, a bit of research later and it turned out the missing ingredient was sage! Enjoy…

Ingredients

  • 2 Beef Stock Cubes
  • 475ml of Boiling Water.
  • 4 Tablespoons of Butter
  • 5 Tablespoons of Plain Flour
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Garlic Powder
  • ¼ Teaspoon of Black Pepper
  • ½ Teaspoon of Dried Sage

Method

  1. Dissolve the beef stock cubes in a jug with the boiling water.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over a low heat – keep an eye on it so you don’t burn it.
  3. When the butter is melted slowly add the flour stirring it all time for about two minutes until you have a golden, thick paste.
  4. Slowly pour the hot beef stick in and make sure you stir it constantly until it’s all mixed with the paste.
  5. Turn the heat up (medium is best) and keep stirring until it looks nice and creamy.
  6. Add the black pepper, garlic and sage.
  7. Give it all a good stir and test for seasoning (you may want to add a little salt).
  8. Serve in dipping pots, lathered over mashed potatoes, or eat out of the pan with a spoon and some soft buttered bread!
